Mens Health: Time for your M.O.T gents
It’s important for Be In Your Element to check in with you to see if you’re doing your part to ensure you’re full of vitality and on top form to live your life to the best you can. This all starts with you and your health. As this week, 13th – 19th June is all about Men’s Health, we want to shine a light on some useful advice, tips and resources for you to use to use and give yourself a full M.O.T.
Whoever you are, be an advocate for the male figures in your life. Colleagues, partner, sister/brother, friend. Make sure you encourage them to check in with themselves too.
Did you know, Macmillan reckon that around 50,000 men have missed a cancer diagnosis during the pandemic? That is a staggering number for just 1 health concern. Data like this proves why we should keep an eye on our own bodies and minds and give ourselves regular MOT checks.
If you are 40 + you will be eligible for an NHS health check. You will be invited every 5 years for one of these checks (unless a health condition has been found, they will become more regular)
Top Tips for men’s M.O.T.
The Men’s Health Forum has shared some simple, yet key things to look out for within your health.
- Skin checks, moles or any other marks on your skin.
- Unexplained lumps and bumps
- Shortness of breath/breathing difficulties (also being mindful of recovery time when exercising)
- Chest pains
- Swelling or itching
- A cough that won’t go away
- Blood where it shouldn’t be.
- Noticeable changes in bowel habits and pain in stomach or back.
If you are experiencing any of the above, please speak to your GP.
Other things to be mindful of. Your weight, how often you wee, your day to day performance and even your blood pressure.
Take life by the balls
How often do you monitor your balls? Testicular cancer is extremely common cancer in men but it’s also a treatable one. Every guy should have an exam by a professional but it’s also important you self-exam on a regular basis.
