Further nurture your sober curiosity or pay some attention to mindful drinking this Dry January
Sober curiosity and mindful drinking is on the rise because, well, more people are deciding alcohol doesn’t quite fit with their lifestyle anymore. Putting time in at the gym, followed by a heavy night on the gin, leaves you sluggish, turning often to sugary foods and usually takes a few days to fully recover, feeling unfocused and some suffering with the dreaded ‘hangxiety’.
Mindful Drinking is to assess your relationship with alcohol. To understand why you are drinking, when you drink and how many drinks are right for you. Whether that is taking a step back from alcohol to draw some conclusions, swapping out alcoholic drinks for ones low in alcohol or without alcohol completely or simply reducing your intake.
But a drink without the alcohol you say? What is such a thing - an orange juice, a cola or a water? Oh no dear reader. How the world has changed. Five years ago the first alcohol-free spirit launched and now we have over 300 non-alcoholic spirits to choose from. With a core focus on high quality ingredients, great flavour and low sugars, there is something for everyone.
With strong choice available and the alcohol-free aisle in supermarkets expanding, we are now starting to see more innovative and interesting spirits launching. Yes, there is even an alcohol-free absinthe.
We are also seeing increasingly experimental non-alcoholic menus in restaurants and bars with bartenders taking love and care over these cocktails consisting of three/four ingredients, providing depth to the drink and a choice for those wanting an option.
So, where do you start on your alcohol-free or mindful drinking journey?
