How to be better than a swan

The swan that gracefully moves on a lake is a picture of elegance in motion but what is hidden from the eye is the activity going on beneath the water's surface (manic paddling!) It is an analogy commonly used in the events world, and for good reason. As no matter what may be going behind the scenes, the face never shows it (all those years in performing arts come into play finally!)

Thought I would share with you how to event manage an unforgettable event (for the right reasons!) and blow the swan out of the water……

You need your 5 P’s….

  • Purpose

  • Planning

  • People

  • Passion

  • Perfection

Purpose

Why are you doing this event?

Identify what this event is all about at the outset is key!

  • What are your objectives?

  • Who is your ideal attendee?

  • How do you want them to feel at the event and the lasting impression it makes ?

Planning

Obvious one right?!

Planning is key for any event and you can never start too early!

  • Plan your date & time to be the most suitable for your audience

  • Plan your venue space, knowing exactly what is going on where

  • Plan your attendees journey from first correspondences to feedback form

People

This isn't something you want to do solo!

  • Surround yourself with the best people to get the jobs done

  • Delegate, delegate, delegate -you can't do everything, delegate other roles to peoples strengths

  • Look after each other, it can be long and stressful, give each other those breaks and that support

Passion

This you need deep down in your belly!

Being passionate about what you are doing gives everything you do that magical power that you feel and all those around you and those in attendance feel too!

Perfection

Tap into that inner perfectionist in you!

Now I don't believe that there is such a thing as 'perfect' which makes me strive for it even more!

I always want the event to be the best that it can be, and I want to be the best Events Manager I can be, and with the search of 'perfection' in mind you will take note of all the little details it takes to get there then too, and those touches are noted much more than you realise.
