2022 - Living Life with purpose and intention
I am not one for New Years Resolutions as 80% fail before the end of the month, they set us up for failure and disappointment which is demotivating.
Instead I like to think about my routines and put my energy and attention into cultivating healthier routines that work for me and my life.
How we start our day sets the tone for the rest of the day so make your morning count, set your alarm earlier enough to give yourself time, don’t start your day up against the clock and rushing around, you may need to get to bed earlier in order to do this in which case make a small adjustment here. Plan your morning routine in time blocks based on how long you need to fulfil that block (some may need 5 minutes to shower and others may need 10 minutes - you are writing your morning routine so make it work for you)
PURPOSE
First things first, try to put your phone outside your bedroom to avoid social media or the news being the first thing you take your mind to. If your alarm is on your phone then this is a double whammy as it will get you out of bed and avoid you hitting the snooze button 5 times before getting up.
And before you do anything else make your bed (unless you have a sleeping body in it!) which gives you a sense of achievement before you have even started the day.
I personally would suggest you factor in the following in your morning:
🧘🏻♀️ Meditate / Breathe / Move / Journalling - anything from 5 minutes to 60 minutes (read The Miracle Morning or The 5am Club for more on how you can create a power hour in the morning)
🧘🏻♀️ Shower / Get Ready - you might want to get your clothes out the night before to give yourself more head space in the morning, this is especially helpful if you spend ages staring into your closet
🧘🏻♀️ Eat / Drink / Supplements - put time and energy into what you are putting into your body to start the day and remember how you start your day nutritionally will set the tone for how you eat throughout the rest of the day. Try starting the day with lemon water to hydrate and don’t forget to take any supplements!
Start to think about your purpose and ask yourself "how can I live my life more purposefully?”
You may start to think about what your calling is or why you are here, or what you want to bring to the world or a change you want to see. Your purpose doesn’t have to be huge and life changing it could be living authentically or being a good mum or helping others. There is no purpose too small if it feels right for you the important thing is how you connect to it and live in alignment to it.
INTENTION
I spend time on getting clear on my intention so I can shift my energy into alignment with them. I write them down to connect to them and I ask myself WHY they are important to me and then I imagine how it would feel live them. I do breath work to bring energy to them. I see my intentions as little seeds and my breath as the fertile ground, water and elements they need to grow and flourish.
This might be a bit extreme for you and where you are on your personal journey so please remember that I have been carving my path for over 10 years now and my morning routine often changes, shifts and evolves - there is no wrong or right way to do it if you let go of expectations and judgements and allow your inner light to guide you and simply show up for yourself every day
A starting point if this is new to you is to buy a nice new journal and write DAY 1, then do a guided meditation or sound bath (I have a sound club that has a library of amazing guided meditations for example) write down your intention for the day, listen and then make a few notes after about how it felt for you, then get on with your day and show up next day writing DAY 2 and doing the same again. This creates a new routine and rewires old hardware of how you have been thinking. It is from this space that you will start to change and live your life with intention.
My final point on living life intentionally and ON purpose is to always question WHY with open curiosity.
When you start to question everything you will start to get to know yourself and this is the greatest thing you can learn.
